Holiday Packages From Qatar: 8 Short Weekend Getaways
You’ve got a long weekend coming. Maybe it’s Eid, maybe National Day, maybe you just stacked two leave days onto a Friday.
Four days. Where do you actually go?
That’s the question most “top destinations” lists skip. They’ll tell you Istanbul is beautiful. Sure. But is it worth it for three nights, in August, with two kids? Probably not.
So we’ve done this one differently. Eight places, all of which genuinely work as short trips from Doha. For each, you’ll get a rough flight time, how many nights it really needs, and when to go. Get those three right and a holiday package from Qatar feels like a holiday, not a race.
What Makes a Good Short Getaway From Qatar?
Simple test. Will you spend more time there than getting there? If the flight is under five hours, your passport gets in easily and the weather’s good that month, you’re probably fine. Anything with a long connection can wait for a proper holiday.
Here’s the rough rule our team uses:
Two nights? Stay in the Gulf.
Three or four? Try the Caucasus.
Five? Now the Maldives and Istanbul start to make sense.
Flight times below are approximate. Routes change.
1. Oman: Muscat, Jebel Akhdar or Salalah
If you only try one place on this list, try Oman.
It’s about an hour and a half away. It looks nothing like Doha. And it works for pretty much anyone, from couples to grandparents.
Muscat is calm. Low white buildings, a long corniche, Mutrah Souq after dark. Two nights is enough to properly slow down.
Too warm? Drive up to Jebel Akhdar. It sits high in the Hajar Mountains and the air is noticeably cooler. The terraced villages are lovely, and nobody’s in a hurry.
Then there’s Salalah. Most people in Qatar have never thought about it. From about July to September the khareef monsoon rolls in, and the hills go green and misty. In July. While Doha is pushing 45 degrees.
Best for families and couples. Go to Muscat between October and April, and save Salalah for summer.
2. Dubai and Abu Dhabi, UAE
Is it adventurous? No. Easy? Very.
You’re in the air for just over an hour. Leave after work on Thursday and you’ll make dinner at the hotel. The kids get theme parks. You get the beach and a long, lazy brunch.
Prefer it quieter? Go to Abu Dhabi instead. The Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque fill one gentle day. Saadiyat Beach fills the next.
Great with young kids, or when you’ve booked nothing and it’s already Tuesday. November to March is the time to go.
3. Riyadh and AlUla, Saudi Arabia
A few years ago, nobody went to Saudi Arabia for the weekend. That’s changed fast.
GCC residents can now apply for a Saudi tourist e-visa whatever their job. You just need at least three months left on your residence permit.
Riyadh suits two nights. Go to Diriyah near sunset, when the old mud-brick walls turn gold. Evenings sort themselves out. The food scene has grown up a lot.
AlUla is a different trip altogether. Give it four nights. The rock tombs at Hegra are the kind of thing you stand in front of and go quiet.
Couples and history fans tend to love it. Go between November and March.
4. Georgia: Tbilisi, Kazbegi and Gudauri
Ask around your office. Someone’s just been to Georgia.
It’s three and a half to four hours away. Tbilisi has wooden balconies, sulphur baths and streets so steep your calves complain. Then you head north into the mountains. Everyone comes back with the same photo of Gergeti Trinity Church above Kazbegi, snow peaks behind it.
Three nights works. Four is better.
Now the boring but important bit. Georgia’s entry rules depend on your nationality. In May 2025 it tightened visa-free entry for citizens of 17 countries. They now need a GCC residence permit with at least a year left on arrival. Please check before you book.
Friends’ trips, couples, anyone who misses green hills. Go May to October for the valleys, or December to March if you want snow at Gudauri.
5. Azerbaijan: Baku and Gabala
Baku catches people off guard.
Morning in the old walled city. Afternoon under the Flame Towers. Dinner by the Caspian. It’s about three hours from Doha, and it packs a lot into a short stay.
Got a fourth day? Drive out to Gabala. It’s green, there’s a cable car, and the air’s cooler.
A good first trip to the region, especially for families. Spring and early autumn are best.
6. Armenia: Yerevan and Lake Sevan
Think of Armenia as Georgia’s quieter neighbour.
Fewer crowds. Slower days. Very, very good bread.
Yerevan has a café on almost every corner, and the pink stone buildings glow at sunset. Garni Temple and Geghard Monastery fit into one easy morning. Lake Sevan takes the afternoon.
Three nights covers it. Couples and slow travellers will like it most. May to October is the window.
7. Maldives
The Maldives in a long weekend? With four or five nights, honestly, yes.
It’s around four hours away. After that, your biggest decision is snorkel or nap.
Here’s the catch, though. Transfers. Some resorts are a quick speedboat ride from Malé. Others need a seaplane or a domestic flight on top. On a short trip, pick one close to the airport. Otherwise you’ll lose half a day each way.
Perfect for honeymoons and anniversaries. Aim for November to April, when it’s drier.
8. Istanbul, Türkiye
It’s the longest flight here, at four and a half to five hours. It’s also the trip people almost never regret.
The Grand Bazaar. A ferry across the Bosphorus at dusk. Breakfast that somehow takes two hours.
Four nights gets you the big sights without living in queues. Just avoid the height of summer. It’s crowded, and the heat isn’t much of an escape from Doha.
Food lovers will be happy. April to June, or September to November.
How Do You Pick the Right Holiday Package From Qatar?
Start with your dates. Not the destination.
How many nights do you really have once flights are counted? Is it a good month at the other end, or just an okay one? Who’s coming? A package that fits all of that will beat a cheaper one that doesn’t, every time.
Worth asking before you book:
Does everyone’s passport get in the same way?
Do we want to rest or rush around?
What time does the flight actually land?
Families miss the passport one a lot. If someone in your group holds a different nationality, their entry rules might not match yours.
Why Book Through a Travel Agency in Qatar?
Because on a four-day trip, small mistakes are expensive. One wrong visa rule or one badly timed flight can wipe out a whole day.
A good travel agency in Qatar checks entry rules for every traveller. It times flights around your leave. It sorts the transfers, so you’re not doing it at the airport at midnight.
Then there’s the stuff you only learn by doing it hundreds of times. Which Tbilisi hotels are actually walkable to the old town. Which Maldives resorts don’t need a seaplane. Which Eid weeks sell out first.
That’s what we do at RAG Tours and Travels, every day, for residents across Qatar. We start with how long you’ve got and who’s coming. The destination comes after.
Make the Most of Your Next Long Weekend
A short trip only works when the pieces fit. The right destination for your dates. The right season. Entry rules that suit everyone in your group.
Get those right and four days feels like a proper holiday.
